Every line of every transaction
QuickBooks Online reports summarise transactions. Getting at the individual lines - the ones that make up a bill or an invoice - is the gap accountants hit constantly, and Intuit's own guidance is that it is not available. It is not available in QuickBooks Advanced either, including when exporting to Excel. A saved search returns header rows and line rows from the same query, so a bill with twelve lines gives you twelve rows with the account, item, description, quantity, and amount on each.
Filter on the fields that matter
Filters run on header fields (date, status, customer, vendor, total) and on line fields (account, item, class, department, amount). Same field twice reads as OR, different fields read as AND. A line filter matches a transaction when at least one of its lines qualifies, so "show me every bill touching this account" is one filter, not a manual scan.
Class and department on both levels
Class and department are carried on header rows and line rows, so you can group or filter by either without leaving the export. Useful when a transaction spans several classes and the summary view collapses them.
Save it, then stop rebuilding it
A saved search stores the filters, the columns, the ordering, and the sort. Re-run it next month and it queries current data. Pin the ones you use most to your dashboard.
